The D.B. Cooper Hijacking Enigma

The D.B. Cooper hijacking, also known as the Cooper vane mystery, occurred on November 24, 1971, when an unidentified man using the alias “Dan Cooper” (later mistakenly referred to as D.B. Cooper) hijacked a commercial airplane, extorted a ransom, and then parachuted out of the plane, disappearing without a trace.
Cooper boarded Northwest Orient Airlines Flight 305 in Portland, Oregon, and during the flight, he handed a note to a flight attendant claiming he had a bomb and was hijacking the plane. He showed a briefcase with wires and red sticks, making the crew believe it was a bomb. Cooper demanded $200,000 in cash, four parachutes, and a fuel truck standing by in Seattle.
After receiving the ransom and parachutes in Seattle, Cooper instructed the remaining crew to fly to Mexico City. Somewhere over the rugged and forested terrain of southwestern Washington state, Cooper parachuted out of the plane with the ransom money and disappeared, leaving behind a series of unsolved questions.
Despite extensive investigations, the identity and fate of D.B. Cooper remain unknown. The case has become one of the greatest unsolved mysteries in the history of American criminal investigations, and various theories abound regarding Cooper’s identity and the circumstances surrounding his disappearance.
