The Hinterkaifeck murders refer to a gruesome and unsolved mass murder that occurred in 1922 in the small German village of Hinterkaifeck. Six inhabitants of the Gruber family, including the parents, their daughter, and two grandchildren, as well as the maid, were brutally killed with a mattock, a type of pickaxe.
The murders took place over several days, and the bodies were discovered when neighbors became concerned about the family’s absence. Strangely, the farm showed signs of continued activity, such as livestock being fed and the house being kept in order, despite the family members being deceased.
