On December 1, 1994, 19-year-old Melissa “Missy” Witt drove to Bowling World in Fort Smith, Arkansas, expecting to meet her mother for dinner. She never made it inside.
Two days later, her car was still sitting in the parking lot. Her keys, an earring, and a trail of blood suggested that Missy had been violently taken beside her own vehicle — in a place where someone should have seen something. Six weeks later, hunters found her body nearly 50 miles away in the remote Ozark National Forest, near a strange, headstone-shaped rock. She had been strangled, and her clothing, jewelry, shoes, and distinctive Mickey Mouse watch were gone.
For more than three decades, investigators have pursued hundreds of leads, examined possible suspects, and searched for the unidentified man reportedly seen in the parking lot at the time of her disappearance. Yet no one has ever been charged, and the evidence that could identify Missy’s killer is still be missing.
